sick

well it seems like it 'tis the season to get sick. Apparently someone had the flu when we got to grandma and grandpa's, so pretty much everyone got it. Kirstyn, Shawna, me, Steph, Mom, Aunt Sue, Auntie Bert, Grandma and Grandpa, and four of Uncle Steve's kids caught it. I spent all of last night up-chucking. seven times. Eew. Steph only once. But I'm supposing that you don't really want all of the gory details...

Anyway, we're currently parked at a Super 8 in Missoula. We actually got here last night, and planned to only stay one night. Plans changed a little bit. Pretty sure dad didn't want to have two sick kids in his car. So we're leaving tomorrow for Oregon. Pretty 'cited!

Well, I'm off to check on our laundry.

Ta.

X-mas at the G-folk's

Well I guess I haven't posted since last Saturday or something.

So we cleared out of Shawna's Monday morning, which was really easier said than done, seeing as we had filled her entire living room, as devoid as it was of furniture, with our monstrous suitcases, an inflatable air mattress, various amounts of snow clothing, and some other misc items that prolly could've stayed in the car, but didn't. From there it was about a three hour drive to Steve and Julie's. (I think...I'm getting all our travel times mixed up)

We spent a few days there, shopping during one of them. I had the funnest time at Michaels with my gift card. =) I hope you never doubted my ability to spend all of it at once, because I most certainly did. Of course, some of the things I got were considered frivolous by my darling Amber. Her favorite remark (as it's been repeated quite a few times) was "You bought a $5 shoe box?". Well I beg to differ. It's a photo box with seperators. And besides...last I checked, shoe boxes didn't come in decorator colors! So there. =P

The rest of our time there was spent pounding away on the piano, which seems to be as much their hobby as it is mine. We get along so well.=)

We headed to Gramma and Grandpa's on the 24th...I think that was Wednesday. From the moment we got there Grandpa was on us to play him some more music. Good thing there were about 4 or 5 of us players...we managed to keep the music going almost non stop. Methinks it was pretty impressive. Thursday everyone got to go ice skating on the pond that Grandpa had just cleared off for us with his monstrous tractor. (He loves his toys) I tried the whole skating thing for a while, but when I discovered that I kept better balance with the full surface of my feet on the ground, I opted for the picture taking role instead. They had fun playing crack the whip, and I had fun video taping it. The whole escapade was called off pretty suddenly tho, when Amy's hand connected with someone else's skate. Cut it pretty deep. Oddly enough, the circumstances were in our favor, because we had two at least partial nurses in our party. Mom and Brend both insisted on looking at it. I insisted on leaving, because I have a very low tolerance for blood. Go figure.

The meal was scrumptious, of course, mostly because we had 30 ppl and most of them brought their own dishes. Dad made some sort of spare rib or something that was pretty good. I think it could've gone longer, because it covered my whole plate in blood. Needless to say, I ate around it. The mashed taters were a work of art tho.

The next day I got the nurses all twitterpated again. For some reason I passed out while Kirstyn was doing my hair. Still can't figure out why. I think Kirstyn and Amber got the most excited about the whole thing, although not in a good way. I woke up to Amber practically yelling "What are you doing, Kara? What are you doing?"

Well I don't know! I sure as heck didn't do it on purpose!

Word spread fairly quickly, and I still had people asking me today if there had been any more "Fainting Spells". No, thank you very much, there have not. =P

Thursday Friday and Saturday our crowd of guests changed little by little. Some people would leave, only to be replaced by another crowd. Friday, a family of violin players came over. I was pretty much amazed by the whole thing, because the youngest girl, who's four, has started playing a little while ago, and the 8 year old has been at it since she was two! I got a video of her and her mom playing a couple duets, but they'll have to wait until later to be posted, because I'm currently on Kirstyn's computer and my camera is in the car.

So pics and videos later.

We're gonna head off on our first part of the trip to Oregon sometime tonight.

And I'm off to take a nap.

Montana Part I

We're officially in Montana, and to tell the truth, it kinda sucks. At least the weather part of it, anyway. I don't think we've seen a positive degree since the last hour of the drive yesterday. It got down to 25 below yesterday evening, and you all know that I'm just a wimpy Cali person...cold should STOP at 20 ABOVE!

But did the weather get that memo?

Nope.

Anyway, we ended up leaving at 8 on the dot Friday morning...something we only managed to do because we were trying to leave a little earlier than that. (Just for the record, I was in the car by quarter till warming my buns on that loverly seat heater) We stopped at a gas station on our way out, and I decided that I really really was in dire need of a doughnut. So I got one. Of course, it took me five minutes to find out where the glazed ones were actually kept. When I found them hiding by the cash register, I bought one and headed back out to the car with it. And then I discovered that nothing is more disappointing than biting into a long awaited doughnut and finding out that, no, it isn't glazed, and yes, it has the consistancy of a brick coated with uncooked egg whites.

Yes, ladies and gents, that week old doughnut was coated in honey. It was disgusting.

After I had been revived we got back on the freeway. We actually made it past Colfax before the snow started. But I feel the need to throw in some version of "When it rains, it pours", only in something better suited for snow. Like, "When it snows, it snows hard." Anyway, it was definitely pouring in the snow sense all the way up the mountain. We made it without much incident. We all had lots of fun pointing and laughing at all the people without 4WD lined up along the side of the road in the snow putting on chains.

It snowed the whole stinking day. Which, of course, meant no driving for Kara. But that's okay. It gave me more time to sleep and work on Shawna's blanket. It's almost done, btw. (I showed it to her when we got here, even though it wasn't finished, and informed her that she wasn't allowed to have it until we see her again at G-ma's for X-mas.)We stayed in a hotel that first night and finished up the trip yesterday morning. Got here around three-ish. Tomorrow, it's off to Great Falls to see the Steve and Julie clan. And Kirstyn, if she asks nicely. =)

Ugh

Snow day on Monday. Definitely floated my boat all the way down any river. That meant no more Loftis than absolutely necessary, and a day of just generally sitting around and doing nothing. And even better was that I was at dad's where it didn't snow, it RAINed.

Have I mentioned I don't like snow?

It disgusts me.

Sure it looks pretty falling from the sky, and then you realize that it's going to make any sort of outdoor movement a pain, whether it be by car or by foot. Anything else is just completely out of the question. Take today for example. Firstly, I wasn't allowed to drive, because dad didn't know how icy the roads would be. Bah. Secondly, I wore flats today, and the people who cleared the sidewalks at school apparently like to see the smallest amount of space that is required for a school full of kids to walk. So even though there are actually thousands of square feet of pavement, only maybe ten were cleared. The rest was covered in half melted and refrozen snow. Flats didn't help at all. By the time I got home, they were soaked through, but that was partially because no one bothered to clear off the side of the road that I had to walk down. Apparently they thought that that was where they were supposed to scoop the snow from the road. Completely inconsiderate if you ask me. Just not even cool.

So yes, I froze all day. Methinks I'm gonna wear rubber boots tomorrow. Maybe I'll turn into John Lawson, who has actually earned the nickname Boots, because of his apparent lack of anything else resembling a shoe.

The only upside to the snow was watching some kids go sledding during lunch. It was definitely interesting. This is the one time of year that all the hills around campus are actually good for something. Someone smoothed a path down from the side of E, down the hill, across an ice patch on the uncovered part of cement, off a jump on the other side, and down towards D where they had to either get up or keep going down the stairs, through the quad, down more stairs, and out onto the road. I bet they could've done it if they had tried hard enough.

12/8/08

Arright...no more officially's. I promise.

I'm going to try to make it though a whole post without saying the "O" word. (it's in the title, if you don't get it)

So it was Madrigal weekend last weekend. It was definitely very much fun. I volunteered/got volunteered to be a head server all three nights, which turned out to be a bit much, to tell the truth. My arms hurt incredibly bad from lifting all those plates, and for some reason (don't ask me why...we were walking on flat floors the whole time), so are my legs. But not from lifting the plates. I dunno why.

Anyway, Friday the show had a few minor glitches. One being that the star of the second act went missing about a quarter of the way through the show. Turns out he spilled some water onstage, got yelled at by some chick, and high-tailed it out of there.

He got kicked out of Chamber.

So they made it through the rest of the night, stalling a ton. They had Tarney and her mom go up and play the harp and flute and drum and all that. It was cool.

Saturday, Mom volunteered, so I got there at four instead of five (well, that definitely guaranteed me to get a good costume...except that they all consisted of white shirts, black skirts and a sash. Not much origionality there...). I talked with Adam for a little bit before going off to help out somewhere. That's actually when I found out about the whole Bobby incident the night before. Turns out that Adam got to take over for Bobby, which meant learning a new part overnight. He had the part of a Scottish sheriff trying to find out "Who Killed the Kilt?". So not only did he have to learn 20 minutes worth of dialogue, but he had to do it in a Scottish brogue. He pulled it off amazingly well. He only said "Was I supposed to say something?" about three times, but it didn't really matter, because it just made the whole thing even funnier.

And he managed to pull off a skirt.

Not entirely sure how those Scottish people do "jigs" in skirts tho...Adam demonstrated one for us. What we saw was almost too much.

Sunday evening was great too. During the interrogations, a slightly middle-aged lady who was dressed almost granny-ish was called up onstage.

"Where were you, madam, last night between the hours of six and ten?"

"Well, watching a movie!"

"A likely story!"

*shrug*

"Then tell me this...Have you ever been into LeeAnne's Britches?" (The store that apparently sold the murder weapons...a darning needle and a seam ripper)

"No, I've only ever been in my husband's britches!"

*Uproar of hilarity, mirth, laughter...whatever you want to call it. Lasts about five minutes.*

a/n: It would've been easier for me to get under control a little sooner if I hadn't been trying to place a plate in front of a guest at that exact minute. Thankfully I didn't drop it, but I didn't try picking up a plate again until all the laughing had died down again.

*Trying to wipe the smile off his face,*

"You disgust me."

*Of course, more uproarious laughter follows.*

Anyway, that was the end of the Madrigal. Now we have concerts Wednesday and Friday, Finals next week, and I have a cello thing on Monday that I'm not quite ready for.

It's going to be an exciting couple of weeks, that's for sure.

In fact, even today was exciting. Well, kinda. Mom woke me up at five to seven today. She announced the time and I sat up, probably too fast to be healthy, to tell the truth. Yup, I was late. It wasn't until a little later, though that I realized that I was supposed to be out the door the minute mom woke me up.

Can you say over-drive?

But I managed to make it to the bus stop a minute early (don't ask me how) where I proudly announced to one of my friends that I had just beat his waking up late record. Ha. Beat that Carey. Of course, I hadn't actually done squat to my hair and my contact case was riding in my pocket, so that I could put them in sometime after I got to school. But I managed the whole escapade without forgetting a single thing, which is more than I can say for a normal morning.

That did leave me in a fairly grumpy mood all morning thought. And of course, it didn't help that my cold finally caught up with me. Humph.

Well, I'm off. I've got a lab to finish. Bah.

Ta.

Weekend

Well it was Madrigal weekend. It's officially over. I'm officially dead on my feet. (that's what I get for serving all three nights)

I'm officially going to bed.

I shall very officially write more tomorrow.

'Cause I'm pretty officially tired.

So officially, ta.

Pre-concert pics

She thought she would go out on stage like this.

I was only allowed to post this because I didn't put her face in the pic. But I thought it was pretty funny. =)

There were only a few pictures of this concert that I was actually allowed to post. Anywhere. Thank you Laura for being a sport. =)

Awwww...look at the cute little penguin!

I'm baaack....

So didja miss me or what? I definitely missed the 'puter. I went from Monday to today without even touching a piece of machinery with internet capability. But I broke down in the car and used ma's cell phone. I have arrived home since then, and am now using a computer with a FULL SIZED KEYBOARD! typing with my thumbs just didn't cut it. But it's amazing the things that you miss out on while cut off from your main source of communication. Like my friend went to the hospital with some mystery disease (she still hasn't emailed me back about WHAT exactly it was). Aparently that happened some time Monday after she left 3rd period. Go figure. The moral of this particular story is that I never want to be seperated from my loved ones again.

Don't go getting a big head. I'm talking about the computer. lol.

Anyway, had a pretty eventful Thanksgiving week. We met up with the Bartons at meeting Sunday evening and went to supper with them and pretty much everyone else there. (This was after I almost ran my mother's car into a tree stump backing out of my parking spot. Have you noticed she's been getting a little twitchy lately?) While there, we (meaning Sierra and me) plotted to kidnap me so i could go with them Tuesday instead of waiting until Wednesday. It definitely worked, but on the way up there, we overshot Oregon a little bit, and ended up in Washington. Lol...we had to drop off Allyson's boss's car, so the three of us made the trip and stayed there over night. During our stay I discovered the stupidity of drinking a full bottle of sparkling cider on your own. The reason being, any fizz that you don't burp back up...well, it's a killer stomach ache. Just trust me, and don't do it. Anyway, we got back just in time for the whole Turkey Day meal.

Turned out that those cousins of mine have some pretty strange traditions. One of them being their habit of dressing up for Thanksgiving dinner. But not really dressing up like you're prolly thinking. We went and dug through the attic, and I came downstairs wearing some sort of fairy dress and a wig made of red yarn that resembled some sort of Raggedy Anne doll with a really bad haircut. Pictures of that incident have been confiscated for everyone's safety...if you saw them, I'd have to kill you. Sorry. That's just how it is. =)

We all had a great time tho, playing a new credit card version of Life...lotsa fun. Headed home Sunday morning. Definitely an awesome Thanksgiving.

11/24/08

I've got some problems. I just finished packing for tomorrow's trip...we're gonna be gone until Sunday, so that generally means 6 outfits. Except in my case, I like to over do it a little and pack a couple extra outfits. I didn't this time, 'cause I only have a suitcase about half the size of the one(s) i had for spring break to fit the same amount of stuff into. Kinda stinks, but there wasn't much I could do about it, except to not pack as many outfits.

You'd think that would've helped.

But no.

I still had to wrestle the thing closed. And I'd like to point out that I'm only taking 3 pairs of shoes.

If you're Sierra, you'd prolly know how much I'm downsizing. It kills me. But I'm making the sacrifice.

Of course, that's just my suitcase.

Then there's my bag of crocheting stuff, which is quite monstrous. Joyful.

News Flash

My religion has doubled in population since the last time I said anything about it. I now have 8 followers.

I feel pretty special.

Miners vs Bulldogs (I think...)

That was the football game last night. The second one I've gone to this year, and the third one ever. Kinda sad. But who cares.

Anyway, at lunch on the big screen in the cafeteria they played clips of last Friday's game. Laura and I very much enjoyed sitting and laughing at all the guys as they got tackled again and again in slow mo. After that was over another clip was played of this guy walking around campus asking random kids if they knew what the Vaccaville mascot was. Some of the answers were:

The Vaccaville Vacuums (Thank you Tyler)
The Whales
The Cows
The Flamingos

There were some others too, but they were all really generic. But apparently they were the Bulldogs (which, btw, is the most commonly used mascot in the US. You just learned something!) So anyway, that entertained us too.

The game itself was a lot of fun. I got to know some more choir people, which is always a good thing...there may be a ton of people in choir, but if you don't know any of them it doesn't do you much good. So I hung around with Chelsea and Larissa and Adam and Ryan until the guys had to go off and sing the National Anthem. When they got back, me, Chelsea and Adam went off to find a seat and accidentally ditched Ryan. (We didn't realize he wasn't following us and by the time we did he was waaay behind us. We didn't see him again for the rest of the game. He's prolly gonna give me grief for that in Chem on Monday.) We ended up grabbing a bench on the visitor's side, which was fine by me. I think Adam got a little embarrassed when Chelsea and I started the "Oooh aah, you wish you were a Miner" chant all on our lonesome. In defense, it wasn't our fault that we were the only ones cheering...

Then Larissa showed up, and Christine, and a girl named Sarah with too much energy, and her friend, who's in choir as well, but her name isn't really coming to mind. It doesn't really matter tho. The more people we had there, the warmer we got, so there were no complaints anywhere. Well, except from Adam. I had lent him my blanket 'cause he was cold, but all he did was wrap it around his hands, hunch over and say "I'm freezing!". I suggested he use his pockets, but he seemed to think that that might ruin his dignity or something. Go figure.

The people who sat in front of us were pretty entertaining too. This one fat guy was sitting right in front of me, and since those benches were pretty skinny, you can guess that half of his flab was hanging over on my side of the bench. That made it kinda hard to move without jabbing my knees into his back, so i tried to keep movement to a minimum. After a while, tho, he started leaning against mine and Sarah's knees. After seeing if she noticed it too (she did), I leaned forward, tapped on the guy's shoulder and said "Excuse me sir, you're invading my bubble". So he said something along the lines of "Well you keep moving around back there...could you scoot back at all?" (except not that politely). As if we hadn't already tried. Apparently he didn't notice that we had people behind us in the same situation. Except we weren't fat! Blame officially lands on his shoulders. Heaven knows they're big enough to handle it!

Anyway, that was most of the game excitement. Except Adam had this ring with PMC written on it, and after a little while of trying to guess what it meant, we asked him. And he wouldn't tell us! So we spent quite a while on it. Didn't get it, but over obsessive freak that I am, I looked it up today, using the hints he had given us. The P is an adjective, and ends with a T, and the M and C both end with R. The only answer that fit was Past Master Councilor. I can't wait to see if I'm right. 'cause it's been driving me completely crazy!

Ladeda

Well, dad's officially home from his train trip. We went to his place a little early because of that, so we left ma's Friday after school. Spent a lovely Saturday doing nothing (that's actually what made it lovely). Dad asked me Sat night if I'd drive him to Santa Rosa Sunday to take pics of some houses (the life of a real estate agent isn't all too glamorous), 'cause he wasn't feeling good. I wasn't feeling to bad about not going until he mentioned that he'd pay me for it.

Oh dear, you poor thing....can I get you some asprin to take care of that cold?

So ya, I drove down to Santa Rosa Sunday morning. Pulled into the Burger King parking lot around 10, and went in to eat breakfast. We came back out half an hour later, only to realize that the car wouldn't start. Joyful. The rest of the day went as follows.

10:30- car wouldn't start. Dad begins pondering just what can be done to remedy the situation.

10:40- after walking around the parking lot looking for a place that sold car batteries, we run into a guy at an oil changing place that offered to give us a jump.

11:00- After many failed attempts at jumping it, the guy gives up and leaves.

11:05- an older guy from BK who had been watching our futile attempts to jump the car from the battery in the trunk (BMW's are odd cars), he informs us that you can also jump it from the front and we might have more luck that way.

11:15- Guy from the oil place comes back, having figured out the same thing that had just come to our attention. He attempts to give us another jump, but of course it doesn't work.

11:30- Guy gives up again, and leaves. Dad is on the phone for most of the duration with Carol, trying to figure out plan A's and B's and C's...

11:45- Dad calls a taxi to take us to a Kragen store down the road a couple miles.

11:55- taxi shows up.

12:10- We get to Kragen...I'm pretty sure that the driver took the long way around, to tell the truth.

12:20- We walk out of the store with a new battery and head back to BK.

12:40- Dad plugs in the new battery, and I try to turn the car on, but still no dice. Dad gives in and calls a tow truck. He is told it will take about 45 minutes.

1:30- Dad gets a call that the company has just found a tow truck to send for us. It'll be there in about 45 minutes.

2:15- Tow truck finally shows up and loads up the car to take us to the BMW dealership which is the only place that can work on it.

2:30- We get to the BMW place and hang around for a bit while dad fills out the form and drops off the keys and calls (yet another) taxi.

2:45- A turquoise Scion (the toaster car) pulls into the parking lot, and we're pretty surprised to realize it's our taxi.

3:00- We are checked into a hotel just a few minutes away, within walking distance of a few stores and a couple fast food restaurants. And there's officially nothing more to do.

We just bummed around for the rest of the day. I pretty much reached my all time high of movies watched in one day.

Anyway, we got a rental the next day and went around to go take pictures of those blasted houses. Got done 'round five ish and headed back home.

Yesterday was our Nevada County Choir Festival thing...We had our Concert choir, all of Bear River's choirs, and the choirs from the junior highs in the area. It wasn't very enjoyable on my part to have to listen to Bear River sing like the little kids...I mean, cute little kids singing all squealy is kinda cute, but once you pass about 6th grade, it's just not appealing. Aaaand that's all I'm gonna say 'bout that.

And today was Wednesday...a collab day, meaning we got to start at 8:20 instead of 7:25. It's good stuff. I got to go to school late. It was wonderful. But not really worth it. Collab days are kinda fun to get there on time and just hang around with friends for an hour before school. And, of course, finish unfinished homework...

Well I'm off. Apparently blogs have been stocking themselves up for me to read. I've gotta see if I can catch up on all of 'em.

Livin' on the edge

I have officially done something illegal. I drove without taking the driving lessons that actually validate my permit. Got to drive the whole two miles to meeting, then to Auburn (where we went shopping...woot!), then home from gosple meeting. I'm proud to say that I didn't hit a thing. =) Aren't you proud of me? I am.

Anyway, I woke up at 7:30 this morning, after dreaming that I was actually going to go to Ireland...Realized that I really really want to go, no matter how sure I am that it's not going to happen. I'll just make my friends take a whole bunch of pictures and stuff, I guess. So I got up and worked on Sierra's blanket for quite a while (looks awesome so far, btw) and got ready for meeting around 9 or so. We left at quarter after ten...meeting lasted half an hour.

Dropped off an older lady at her house, rather than make her son come out to get her, stopped by home for lunch, and set out again for Auburn where we ran by Styles For Less looking for some clothes for Steph. She walked out with a very cute dress and a jacket. I held two bags containing two sweaters, two tank tops, a pair of boots, a duster, and a pair of jeans. So we tried Ross. She managed to find a pair of jeans, two dresses and a sweater. I got two more dresses and a t-shirt. I almost got two t-shirts, but decided that I should restrain myself a little bit. It was a whole bunch of fun.

Gosple meeting was great. John Vandenburg showed up for some reason and spoke for the second half of the meeting. I love how he speaks. I could honestly listen to him for hours. I was pretty disappointed when we had to walk out of there. Except that I got to drive. That made it a little better.

Anyway, Laura's coming over tomorrow. Pretty excited. I asked ma if she could bring her bro too, but she vetoed that. I think she got the idea that things would be exciting enough with just the two of us. Anyway, we're gonna make cookies and cinnamon rolls. If we have time, maybe danishes. I dunno. They take time.

Found a new book recently, reviewed by the Barton clan...called Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl. Good book. Read it now. =)

List

This is mom's fault. She told me to. And good little girl that I am, I couldn't refuse. =) (did I get any brownie points there ma?)

My Favorite Things

-Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens (You saw that coming right?)
-Finding things that have been lost for ages (such as money, certain David Lanz books, and articles of clothing)
-Getting comments on my blog
-People asking me to sit by them on the bus (yes I know that sounds conceited, but it makes me feel special, so get over it =P)
-Staying home all day with nothing to do and planning out exactly what you're NOT gonna do all day.
-Doing unexpected things for people
-Heated mattress pads (aMAZing)
-Rain
-Walking in the rain
-Getting to wear my cute "cold weather" outfits when it's raining. =)
-Chinese food
-Talking about nothing with people who don't care that you're talking about nothing (that would be why Sierra and I have hour long conversations...)
-Getting messages in my Truth Box on MySpace
-Actually being witty once in a while (doesn't happen much)
-Finding a really good sale on clothes that are actually worth buying
-Getting my homework done on a day that it actually gets checked (which isn't very often...kinda makes me wonder why I do homework at all, honestly)
-Going to tons and tons of conventions every year (I made it to five this year, plus 3 special meetings in a row! I'm pretty much saint-like as of now)

Methinks that's it. Happy ma? =)

Just call me gimpy.

Thursday we did all sorts of aerobic-y stuff in aerobics...including weights and all that jazz. I woke up yesterday fully expecting to be sore, but myuch to my surprise, I wasn't. Then, later in that very same day, we played wiffle ball. A game in which I squng a plastic bat about 4 times, and ran through the bases once. Well this morning, I woke up and I'm definitely incredibly sore. Apparently my body hasn't realized that it was supposed to be sore YESterday. It's just a little behind I guess.

Anyway, today was the first day of our four-day weekend. I still haven't changed out of my PJs, and I honestly don't intend to until tomorrow morning when I actually have to. I spent the majority of my day sitting in a recliner crocheting. I managed to get a ton done, but seeing as this particular project was supposed to be a birthday present from back in August, I can't really feel good about that...it's already waaay late. But it looks really really really cool so far. I shall post a pic of it when I'm finished. I highly recommend looking forward to that...it shall be a momentous occasion. =)

Elections

I promise, I'm not turning into one of those people who rant and rave about anything Obama/McCain, but there have been some things that just bugged me.

So I was checking my MySpace, since I have extra time this morning (yay for collaboration days!)and I was reading through the bulletins from yesterday that were posted after I went to bed, and, I kid you not, 80% of them were related to Obama's win. Some people were moaning and groaning about it, and others, well, you can guess that there was a little bit of gloating...

So I almost posted a bulletin telling 'em all to "shuddup", but I figured it would be safer to do it on here, where only a fraction of them will actually be able to read it.

Yup, I can definitely claim to a few common sense genes. Once in a while.

So as for my "Shuddup" rant, here goes.

Yes, Obama won. McCain lovers, stop whining. There's nothing you can do about it now. (There never really WAS anything to do about it, actually. It's not like you could run in and change all the votes around...) Obama people, yes, your guy won. Have your little moment of victory and then (ahem) "shuddup"! I am thoroughly fed up with listening to everyone's different views on everything, especially when those views are apparently the only thing that's even worth listening to, according to the mouth that's spewing them out at a rapid pace. Granted, there are a couple people who I actually enjoy talking with about this kind of thing, but they're few and far between, so I'd much rather just not. So McCain's old. Who cares? That means he's got more all-around experience than a lot of people. Obama's a smooth talker. Whether or not that's a good thing, we'll just have to wait and see, don'tcha think?

There's no point in fretting about what's gonna happen with Obama in the White House. What will happen, will happen, and there's nothing we do that's going to change the decisions he makes. So then what if he ends up like Bush? With people hating him for a decision we all thought was good in the first place but ended up not as beneficial as we thought? Everyone will automatically forget that it was them that voted him into office and that they all worshipped the ground he walked on while he was running (no pun intended).

Anyway, we'll just see what happens.

(How's that for anti-climatic?)

Some days are stupid days

If only for the reason that I myself act stupidly. And today was one of those days. But oddly enough, I was only completely stupid once. But I've been thinking about how stupid of a stupid moment it was.

Anyway, I blame it on the fact that I didn't dress down for P.E. I met up with Joe (the only guy currently enrolled in 6th period Aerobics) as he came out of choir, and we walked to the girl's locker room, where I ran inside to ask Rhoden where we were going that day. (The wrestling gym where we normally go is being taken over by Freshmen for the time being. psh) Turned out, it was in the gym right next to the locker room, so I went out and informed Joe, and we very joyously walked the ten feet to the door (neither of us had been looking forward to going to the Ali Gym much). It was locked, so we stood outside and talked a bit, and then, he had to go and ask for my number. And, wuss that I am, I couldn't even come up with a good excuse NOT to give it to him! (I almost claimed to have forgotten, but again, I'm a wuss. I just can't do that to people. Gah.) So I typed it into his phone and, as is courtesy, gave him my phone to do the same. But I'm kinda thinking he got the wrong idea. So now I feel bad.

Anyway, aside from that, I had a pretty good day. Sat next to Kevin upon his request on the way home. It was a rare occurance...normally I sit with Laura, who happens to be his sis. I kinda blew up at a guy who sat behind us who kept messing with Kevin (he may be a Freshman, but he's MY freshman! lol). I almost called him a pedofile but settled for homo. He's just a creepy dude. And then Kevin asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I realized that I have no idea. I think I might just tell people (at school anyway) to make me cards. I feel bad getting Christmas presents from people I'm not related to.

Anyway, I got home and messed around on the puter for a bit. Showed Laura some really funny Jeff Foxworthy clips. And Achmed. It amazes me how many people haven't heard of him! And now I'm writing this. So I'm gonna head now. But you gotta watch this clip. It's pretty much hysterical.

I'm grumpy.

And I hate being grumpy. It makes me grumpier. And the worst part is, I don't even have a reason to be grumpy. I actually sang that song from the Oklahoma musical called "Oh What a Beautiful Morning" as I walked to the bus stop, even though it was cloudy, and hardly morning, considering the sun hadn't even started coming up.

Anyway, the only things I can think of that could've made me grumpy were

-Loftis and his "teaching"...honestly, lawyers shouldn't be allowed to teach anything.
-Clarissa and her incessant whiny voice asking me over and over again to help her with math problems that I hadn't even gotten to and then complaining when I couldn't. And then coming back for more help.
-Mr. Hoover and his fourth grade teaching methods. And this idiotic book called Into the Wild that I pretty much finished forever ago, but the class is only half-way done, so I'm not allowed to read my own book while they read.
-It was cloudy all day, but it didn't rain, which is always frustrating.
-I had a headache (but I'm pretty sure it was caused by Clarissa's voice. It's shrill. Kinda makes you wanna kill yourself.)

These are things that I encounter most days, but somehow, it made me really grumpy. And I'm having a hard time not being grumpy. And I still have homework to do. That's not helping at all. I kinda sorta want to just stay home tomorrow and sleep, but then I'd get all behind with assignments and I'd have to explain to everyone why I wasn't at school, and of course, sleeping in isn't a very good excuse, so I'd have to fancify it every time someone asked. I just don't have the energy for that.

Anyway, we're headed up to a Halloween get together at the Fleck's tomorrow night. Should be fun. And there will be sugar. (I know this, 'cause we're providing it =])So I'm gonna go finish homework now. And I'm gonna make brownies. Maybe they'll cheer me up.

Yup...just the thought is making me happy already!

Well, I hope mom lets me. I just made a batch the other day...

Geeze. This time it's been Shawna bugging me to blog, which is just stupid. She's in Montana! She pretty much isn't allowed to bug me anymore! Grr. =P

Well, this is the first week back from Fall Break. Half of it was spent at Dads, but Thursday after my cello lesson we went down to the Cruz's for a while. It ended up being until Sunday evening after we got back from Fresno Special Mtg. (my third, btw. That on top of the five conventions I had this year leaves me feelin' pretty angelic =]) It was a lot of fun. Steph had a blast taking care of Baby Ruben (Julie sure enjoyed it too. She's had enough changing diapers to last her a lifetime) and entertaining Vanessa, who's now, very proudly, 3 and a half. Marlissa and I hung out a bit, playing the piano and reading books and making pumkin bread and cleaning the kitchen (only to have it messed up five minutes later by rampaging kids). Saturday was Julie's birthday, so Alicia and Steph made a cake by a recipie that Julie had set out on the counter after saying very pointedly that it was a very good recipie. I personally think that too many years of living with young kids will leave a person without the ability to hint subtly. It's probably best to just say what you mean straight out and not have to worry about whether they understood your inference or not. Of course, that might be a problem either way, but still...

As a side note, I now officially have two Aunt Julie's. The one mentioned above is the second as of last week. For some reason, every time I said her name I would put an "Aunt" before it, automatically thinking of the origional Aunt Julie in Montana. After a day or two of constantly correcting myself, I just decided to call her Aunt. It's just easier. She didn't mind, and technically, she's a step-aunt, so it's all good. =)

So now we're back at school. It's insanely dumb. I have gotten waay too used to sleeping in, so now I keep feeling like I'm way behind. Which is definitely not the case. I go to bed pretty early. Anyway.

Made brownies last night. They were scrumptious. Now they're gone. It's odd how food disappears faster with only three of us at home than it did with five or six. Some part of me wants to say that it's because of Kirstyn following us around as we ate accusing us of adding poundage to our posteriors, but I probably shouldn't. She might come back and start doing it again. =)

Got a new guy in our aerobics class. He just switched in from the seventh period aerobics. Feel kinda bad for him, 'cause he's the only guy in there. Except the TA's. But they spent their time doing backflips onto big squishy foam blocks. Hmm.

I'm officially not going to Ireland. Those of you who have been on MySpace would actually know that. I've decided to save my money for a car and the trip to Ireland that mom wants to take in a couple years to go over for convention. I figured it would be a little wiser to stay home.

Anyway, I'm off now. Even though I've got nothing to do.

10/21/08

Well, I have been officially reprimanded by my mother for that last post of mine, and I'm sure to get another tounge lashing the next time Sierra gets on the computer too, so I should prolly do a decently lengthed post.

Well, It's the second day of fall break and boredom already ensues. Sunday was Sacramento's special meeting, which was cool, because there were people there from the other field that I hadn't seen in pretty much ages. (That would be the Cruz's) So I made plans with Julie Cruz to be kidnapped sometime this week for boredom's sake. I think that little event is planned to happen Thursday after my cello lesson.

Today and yesterday, I've been working out in the yard, blowing leaves, stacking wood, and generally making my muscle-less arms really sore while setting to work with a pair of clippers. I managed to scare myself pretty badly as I was trimming up some vines that had somehow made it over the fence. I was almost done, so I was trying to hurry it up a bit and I was just hacking through at it, when I realized I had just unearthed a pretty large wasp nest. Red alert...abandon post...mmk, run. So I almost did...and then I realized I was standing right in front of a wood pile. So I almost tripped. But I didn't. I just hastened in a very un-graceful fashion. Anyway, I didn't get myself stung. Good stuff.

So tomorrow is my music lesson...not really sure what to expect from it...so we'll see. Thursday is my cello lesson. It'll be interesting to try and fit that thing into Dad's dinky car. Oh well.

Anyway, I think that's gonna be the end of this post, 'cause I've got a headache that isn't really being helped by staring at a computer. So ta for now. =)

Ok fine...

Here ya go Sierra. I posted.

=)

Some new favorite quotes

But before I get to them, I've gotta point something out. Just as I was about to click on the "Add Post" button, I noticed this little dohickey in the corner of the page that said "You have four followers".

Heck...I could be my own religion. Tell your friends!

Well, on to the quotes. These came about through a combination of English a week or two ago, and the Bumper Sticker's application on MySpace. Don't judge me...it's just my weakness. =)

"The man fell from the 12th story window and hit the ground below like a Hefty bag filled with vegetable soup." (Let that one sit in your head for a little bit...lol)

"He was as tall as a six foot three inch tree." (Sierra, this could work for you too, but you'd be a three foot shrub. lol...jk)

"Gramps still had a mind like a steel trap, although now it more closely resembled a steel trap that had rusted shut with time."

"I dream of a world where a chicken can cross the road without having his motives questioned."

"You're a great friend, but if the zombies chase us, I'm tripping you."

"I'm not so great at the advice; can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?"

"Don't follow in my footsteps. I run into walls."

"Of course women don't work as hard as men...we get it right the first time!"

"Congratulations; your incredible wit and biting sarcasm...they have slain me. I am dead." (This one would be funnier still if you could see the pic that went with it.)

"Disney gave me unrealistic expectations about men"

"A clean house is a sign of a wasted life."

"I refuse to have a battle of wits with someone who is unarmed." (yup, that's officially a golden oldie)

"Raising a teenager is like nailing jello to a tree."

"Girls can do anything boys can, but we can do it in heels." (That one's just for you, Kirstyn)

"If people were meant to pop out of bed in the morning, we'd all sleep in toasters."

"Pale is the new tan"

"Vegetarian: the Indian word for 'bad hunter'"

Finally...a blond joke...

Why did the blond climb over the glass wall?

So she could see what was on the other side!

I'm sorry for that one. I truly am.

Homecoming Game

So who else agrees it's time for me to post again? I'm imagining a whole bunch of hands flying into the air, here. If they aren't, well, then, why on earth would I be posting? Hmm?

Well, We had the Powder Puff game today, during which I pretty much froze. I spent the first half snuggled up to one friend or another (Casey, 90% of the time, because she was just as cold as me), until Casey found a bunch of her emo friends. I made myself scarce. Emo kids are waaaaayyyyy not my type. So I found Katie and Laura and One of their friends and hung out with them for the last five minutes of the game. We were apparently supposed to be cheering on the seniors (it was seniors vs juniors), but I guess we didn't cheer loud enough (or at all, for that matter) 'cause they lost 18 to nuthin. I'm sure they'll get over it soon enough.

Homecoming game is tonight, and I'm actually going to go. I'm pretty excited because most of my friends are going (except Casey, that fuddy duddy). Who cares about the game? I just hope they actually win this one...they lost our last homecoming game pretty bad.

Anyway, off to make cookies...or maybe just cookie dough. hmm.

So that's all for now, folks.

Reggae

Life has been completely normal lately. I think. But I suppose I could blog anyway. Today was kinda interesting, in comparison.

Starting last night...I made a batch of cookies for my buddy Kevin's birthday, which was actually yesterday. I had forgotten to get him balloons, so I resorted to sweets. I went all out with them, too. I even spelled out his name in chocolate chips. One letter per cookie. It was pretty cute.

Went to bed last night a little later than normal last night (9:30 vs. 8:00), so I wasn't planning on getting up until 6:30 or so. But, of course, I set my alarm clock for 6, just to be sure I would have enough time to wake up before I actually had to get up. So, the dratted alarm clock started beeping at me this morning at six, and i shut it up as quickly as I could, then went back to sleep. The second I dozed off again, Mother dearest barged into my room, slamming the door open and announcing, "Well, I'm up!"

"K, I don't really care that you're up. Lemme go back to sleep!" That was the only thing going through my mind, but apparently the furthest thing from hers. "Your alarm clock has gone off like 6 or 7 times, so I'm up now, but you aren't! So get up!"

I wasn't about to humor her. I just kinda grunted and rolled over after growling that mine had only gone off once, and that it was Steph's (the girl that doesn't actually get up until 7...go figure) that had been going off since 5:30. So she barged into Steph's room with the same speel. And then came back into mine to turn on the light. So I had to get up, if only to turn it off, but I knew that if I did, she would turn it right back on again. I would like to know who made my own mom that mean. It's just not right.

So I got up and used my extra half hour to take a shower. Yeah, that's right. Half an hour's worth of hot water. Now, see, if we didn't have a propane water heater, that actually might've been some pretty sweet revenge. But the world's against me. And I ran out the door right on time.

And then I got onto the bus, saw Kevin, and realized I had forgotten his cookies. I hate myself sometimes.

First period I had Chem, during which I was supposed to take a test that I really wasn't ready for. But I passed it thankfully. I was incredibly surprised.

Second...AP World...found out that the assignment that I had actually done isn't going to be done until Friday. I think that's the third time he's postponed it. From last Friday to Tuesday to Friday. He annoys me. Also found an envelope from one of my Laura bud's containing a CD of Reggae that I'm currently listening to. It's kinda interesting.

Third...Put up with all the annoying people in English. That includes the teacher.

Choir...Started a new song...The Twelve Days of Christmas. The alto's have to sing a bunch of bawk bawk bawks during the "7 geese a'layin'" The sopranos are all for choreographing it, and having us flap our arms around. That would be interesting. Especially when the guys get to the "10 lords a'leapin". It would most likely collapse the risers. So let's not.

Sixth...Aerobics. Almost fell asleep doing Yoga. But it was a nice change of pace.

Seventh...Bishop accused me of being an overachiever (ha...i beg to differ). I just laughed.

Bus...I actually got on in decent time. Got a seat with Laura, but left a minute later to run (literally) to the ice cream truck all the way down the parking lot for some drinks. By the time I got there, there were 7 or 8 people in line, and plenty of them were interested in taking a very long time getting their stuff. Two people ahead of me was another guy who rides my bus. As soon as he got his stuff, he took off running for our bus, leaving me standing in line. (I should mention that our bus is always the first one out of the parking lot, meaning you don't really have any extra time to catch it, and also that it's at the top of the parking lot...the furthest one away from the ice cream truck) By the time I had my stuff, I could hear all the buses starting up. Not a good thing. So I took off at a dead run, not really caring that the Monster and Dr. Pepper I was carrying were getting shaken to a dangerous extent. I actually did make it onto the bus, just in time. The driver had actually waited for me, thankfully. (Not sure why, though. If I were a bus driver, I would have a heck of a fun time making kids miss the bus through incidents like that) So I made it home. And now here I am.

And here I go.

Money is Lame

Lately, My savings account has been going down like one of those little whirlpool things you get when you drain the bath tub...You get the picture, right?

It all started waaaaayy back in July, back when you couldn't even see the whirlpool 'cause the tub was still full (or relatively, anyway). I went almost double over my texts, and because of that, ended up owing dad a lot of money. I should add that a month or so before that, I had accidentally left myself signed in on MSN on my phone, which racked up a bunch more money...This phone is gonna be the death of me. And my bank account.

Then, I went to Oregon. Twice. Within a month. Kinda dumb of me. I needed money for junk food, helping out on gas, etc. While in Oregon the second 'go-round, I wore a pair of Kirstyn's shoes (white...!), which I apparently got dirty...I didn't think so, but the owner did...So I guess I get to pay her for those. Grr.

Then, I've got a whole ton of late (lost) library books. That I get to pay for.

And finally, the only one I was actually sort of expecting was the first payment for Ireland. I didn't think I was going to be able to go at first, 'cause they weren't taking sophomores, but they announced yesterday that they actually had room for us to go. But we had to have the money by tomorrow. So, that equalled up to another trip to the bank.

So it all adds up to an almost empty tub of water just waiting for a couple more unexpected things to come up.

I definately need a job.

Life

Has been pretty dreary. Well, not dreary, exactly, but not really blog-worthy.

Well, that's a fib.

We went to Boring last weekend, meaning we got to skip half a day of school Friday. We drove up to the Barton's and got there at some lateish hour. I think it was 10 or 11. Anyway, Sierra and I spent the next hour or two catching on everything that had happened since the last time we had seen each other. Two weeks before. But there was still some exhorberant amount of talking to do, which filled our time very sufficiently. Even after we had turned out the lights, one or the other of us would start talking all over again, emphasizing something that had been talked about previously, or starting on a completely new topic.

We got up at 6ish the next morning and headed off to Boring which was about an hour and a half away. Sierra slept the whole way there, while I colored a bunch of Care Bears. I fell asleep about half an hour away and woke up during the last stretch when Aunt Sharon told Sierra and I it was time to wake up in that sing-songy voice that all mothers seem to acquire to an irritating perfection. Sierra just kinda grunted and tried to go back to sleep, so when Aunt Sharon asked if we were awake I said, "Well I am, but your cow isn't."

COMPLETELY didn't mean to say that. I meant "...but your DAUGHTER isn't" but my luck wasn't too great. At least it woke her up, right? Lol. So we got out of the car, and decided that it was pretty much waaay to cold. I was wearing a sweatshirt over a long dress that looked a little odd, but I resolved right then and there not to take it off. Allyson ended up lending me a jacket that actually kinda went with my dress okay, but I ditched it after meeting when it finally got warm enough to go without one.

The whole convention was pretty great. I love spending a weekend at convention before I have to go back to school. It was a lot of fun having a ton of Oregon people there, too. (Of course they would be there...They LIVE there) Anyway, we had tons of fun. After evening meeting me and a few of said friends went up onto this hill and played Haha...which, might I add, is one of the coolest games invented...and fought over blankets and had tons of fun. But then I had to go back to our tent and try to figure out where all of my stuff was in the dark and take out my contacts without losing them, and by the end of the whole ordeal I was insanely grumpy. It definately was not fun. I hate tents.

A lot.

So that's the gist of the whole thing. There wasn't much that stands out from the rest, but it was a very cool convention anyway. And now I'm back at home sitting on a computer being bored silly. California is so dumb.

Helen of Troy

I forgot to mention a little happening in my last post that was pointed out by izzy...

So I was having Chantelle do my hair Saturday morning...she decided to do French twists in the front to dress it up a little, and as she did, a little girl named Cat, who was standing next to us watching the whole process, said, "You look like Helen of Troy!"

By far the randomest compliment I've ever been paid.

And I'm pretty sure Helen of Troy didn't have red hair. At least, it was blond in the movies.

But it was still pretty cool. So I threw it into a conversation a little while later as a group of us sat under a tree attempting to keep cool. "You must obey me! I am Helen of Troy!"

So Sierra asked, "Well, if you're Helen of Troy, then who are your kings? She had two of them fighting over her!"

Sierra and Brittni were nominated, and even though they both protested mightily, they proved my suspicions later when they fought over something that had to do with me. (I think it was who got to sit next to me during meeting or something...I dunno.) So that pretty much made my day.

Fear me.

I am Helen of Troy.

You are my humble servants.

And I have two kings.

Muahaha.

(that was a most un-Helen-of-Troy laugh...)

Nate-isms

I just got back from my slightly-spur-of-the-moment trip to Saginaw...It was basically amazing. I ended up going with the Evans and Nate Galuza, which made for a very interesting trip. Seven people in a seven-seater minivan with luggage and sleeping bags and pillows makes for a pretty crowded place. We had fun though. Within twenty minutes, I had told them all the twisted song versions I knew(including the one about "This land is your land/It sure ain't your land/I got a shotgun/and you don't got one") which got them in hysterics. We all sacked out after a bit, tho, 'cause we had all just gotten out of school a few hours previous and we didn't actually get on the road until 9.

Around 11, we made our first stop, courtesy of Nate, who just had to drink a couple bottles of water before we left. And it kinda dropped right through him. So as we pulled off the freeway, a very groggy Nate said "Ah. I have found my happy place."
I was completely befuddled, just for the record. I had no idea what he meant, so I asked, just to clarify. He gestured at the rest stop in front of us. "This. It's my happy place." Cue hysterics. Then Katie started complaining 'cause she was all sleepy and didn't want to get out to go to the bathroom, so Nate, still half asleep, said "Well, it's your choice, Katie. You can have a happy pee or you can have an angry pee, but either way, you gotta pee." Aaaannnndd more hysterics.

You see, this is why I don't take overnight trips very often.

We pulled in at 5:30, slept in the car for half an hour, then went into the dorms to find Sierra, who would have to be up...she was serving tables. It took a while to find her, but when I did, we went off to wait her table. As we were on our way over, we stopped to say hi to some people sitting outside the dining room, and Drew did a double take. "Why are you two dressed alike?" We glanced at each other and realized that we were both wearing the same shade of purple shirt. And then Drew added "And why am I not surprised?" It was giggle worthy. Sierra explained that we were just telepathic and she had been sending me messages saying *purple shirt purple shirt purple shirt*. It's the easiest way to explain it. :D

So we served...and went and got dressed (as is custom...lol) and went to the sing. It was cool. It was incredibly hot, which was a downside. I ended up taking off both covers from my notebook and tearing them in half to use as fans during afternoon and evening meeting. They were pretty effective. As was the ice war I accidentally started before the last meeting. It was amazing. These people were bringing out tubs of ice that was becoming increasingly popular as the day got hotter, so me and a few other girls grabbed cups of it and started eating it. And then, of course, someone got some down their shirt. Multiple times. And then some guys stopped by and brought their ice with 'em. It got pretty insane. One girl got two or three handfulls down her back, but she didn't mind too much when meeting came around, 'cause it kept her nice and cool.

Anyway. I think there were five people who professed Saturday. And I actually knew three of 'em, which is an odd occurance. Trevor was one...Definately surprised me, 'cause he's only nine...but I guess he had been thinking about it for a while. And Frank Maricle and Brandon something...I know his sister better than I know him...and then two other kids and an older woman. I guess that's actually six, but I still knew half of 'em. It was pretty cool.

We ended up leaving at around one...managed to make it home in seven hours. It wasn't a bad trip either. I got a good nap, but I'm still tired. Don't ask me why. So I think I'll got to bed now. After I finish my homework.

Oy.

I love my bus driver

So it's officially the second day of school. It's pretty good so far. I've decided that I actually like all of my teachers, but one of 'em reminds me a bit much of my last English teacher. He's spent the first two days going over a couple different twenty page power points on the rules of his classroom. It's pretty retarded. And my AP World teacher is slightly hooked on sports metaphores. Namely baseball. I don't get it. At all. But I like the rest of them.

It's also interesting to be in a co-ed choir this year. 'Tis lovely to actually be able to hear the guys' parts on each of the songs before the rehearsals that happen just a couple days before the concert. We definately have an advantage.

Anyway...

Today was just as hot as all the other ones have been lately. In fact, my Chem teacher has pretty much given up on writing the highs and lows of the day on the board as normal, and is replacing it with "Hot...hot...hot...hot..." It sure doesn't help that the school is trying to save money and power by shutting off the AC during the hottest part of the day. (I don't get it...why run the air conditioner in the morning when it's already nice and cool?) You understand my misery if you've ever been stuck in a room with 30-40 people in it with no air conditioning...on the top floor of a building with some sort of metal-ish roof. It is soooooo not cool. I finally got out of afore-mentioned class and walked up three stinking flights of stairs to get to the buses, wholly expecting to have to sit in another deep fryer for ten or fifteen minutes before the buses took off.

But it was Nadine to the rescue.

She greeted each kid who walked up the steps with a squirt bottle full of considerably chilly water. "Wanna cool down?"

It was lovely.

And she is my favorite bus driver ever.

BTW, did I mention I got contacts? Mom got after me for not mentioning it in the last post. :D

Procrastination to the max

Yes, procrastination is indeed the only reason I'm actually posting on this. But technically I'm still being obedient to myself, 'cause I said that I wouldn't take a break from the computer until noon, and I'm truthfully not. I'm just not exactly doing what I'm supposed to be doing. :D I love loopholes.

But you may be proud of me (this is mostly for mom's benefit) when I tell you that I officially just finished Portugal in this horrendous stack of countries that I don't care about. So, Portugal down, 40 to go. Sooooo close. I've already done twenty since about 9:30 this morning, which I consider a great accomplishment.

So continuing with the procrastination...we went to see Get Smart last night. It was one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life. It wasn't just the movie that was funny, though. Somehow, this genius late-night-movie idea of mine turned into a family outing, which included fitting 5 kids and two adults into the Tank (we had Cayman's friend Nathaniel with us), driving half an hour to the theater, getting snacks, watching the movie, then trying to load everyone up again to go back home. And that's pretty much what happened, but it was a heckuva lot more detailed than that.

9:15-Dad sends the "Clear for takeoff" message, so we get scrambling.

9:21-Everyone manages to make it into the car safely except Carol, who had gone back to get something.

9:22-Cayman and Maverick climbed back out to do the same, I realize I had forgotten to grab a hairtie. I run back to get one.

9:23-Everyone having made it into the car, it starts to leave. I walk back out of the house and manage to flag down the car before it goes without me. Some people have some seriously unobservant parents.

9:24 to 9:45-Nathaniel was busy being tortured by the two girls who got stuck in the back with him. Somehow, during all of this, he managed to run into a wall, which, in itself would have been a little odd, but he actually managed it while he was sitting down. In a car. Go figure.

9:45 to 9:55-Dad and Carol set everyone loose on the snack stand. We were the only ones in there besides the people managing the booth (two very lookable guys...), so they didn't even have someone else there to distract them while this load of kids ran rampant through the place, trying to figure out what they were going to take. I could almost hear the sigh of relief when we finally went off to our movie.

9:55 to 10:00-Steph and I (rather loudly) made fun of the commercials and previews. We made sure that there weren't too many other people in the room before we even considered it, don't worry, ma. There was only one other guy, and I think he thought it was funny.

10:00 to 12:00-The movie was watched, only interrupted by bursts of hysterical laughter. (It's ker-freakin'-boom, man!)

12:00 to 12:30-Spent similarily to the ride to the theater, except Steph and I didn't have to sit in the back. Nathaniel was relatively safe, but I think he has some sort of girl phobia. lol.

So that was the evening.

Don't I have great ideas?

(You don't have to answer that)

8/2/08

Ok, so...wow.

Friday...wonderful day. Especially when you actually have something to look forward to on a Friday. Like the weekend of sleeping that I was growing increasingly dependant on. But no, dad wanted to go on a trip to the coast, namely Santa Rosa, 'cause that's where U. Alan was staying. I seriously considered calling dad and asking if I could not go, and just catch up on sleep, but I decided against it...I didn't see him at all last week, even though it was the week I should've been there, so it just didn't seem nice to not go. So we set off, after I grabbed yarn for a new blanket (white, hot pink, and chocolate brown) and got there 7ish. We went to some cute little Chinese resaurant and ate. Good food. And then we went back to the hotel and watched TV and were bored. Until Sierra called and said something along the lines of "Come to Marine World!!!" So after a bunch of figuring stuff out, I did!

So we just got back from Marine world a few hours ago. I'm super tired, but man, it was fun. Me and Sierra, along with Allyson, Brandon Foner, and Kyle Ulschafer went off and rode coasters, although not as many as we planned (stupid long lines...and animal shows!)

The ride home was interesting to say the least. We stopped at Arby's for food, but Aunt Sharon didn't want that, so we stopped by Carl's Jr for her, then realized that we forgot about Trevor...Add a stop to Taco Bell. At one point after everyone was settled, we were eating our food when we noticed something resembling a set of human hindquarters clad in bright orange pants sitting on the back of the seat between Sierra's and my heads. We exchanged a couple glances, both rather confused, when Kyle poked his head up from the orange pillow he had wedged against the seat. Another glance exchange..."Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" (that was Sierra)...Yeah, I definately was. So, between hysterics, during which Kyle couldn't figure out what the heck was going on, I managed to say something along the lines of "That's a pretty bad presentation, Kyle!"

So we laughed some more.

He didn't appreciate it at all.

It was hilarious.

Jobness

Seem's like jobs are all the rage now, especially with the people in desperate need of money. That would be me. So life at the farm has been pretty interesting lately. I'm pretty sure I posted about the fire last Tuesday, so that bit of excitement is out of the way. So, updates, since then...

I am only working 7 hours now instead of full time, due to the fact that there is pretty much nothing for me to do after 2:30 when everyone else has gone home. It's fine by me, though. Sure, it's minus an extra eight bucks a day, but that doesn't seem enough worth it to stick around bugging Tamara and Belinda about something to do. I very effectively cleaned every single stinkin' onion and garlic clove in the storage stall within about 2 or 3 days of working on 'em. And there were 5 boxes full, each about 3'x1.5'x8"...that's a whole heck of a lot of garlic and onions. It was nice though. When I was working on those I got to sit under the tree in the courtyard...in the shade, might I add...and my only responsibilities were to the onions and the people walking by with questions. But as soon as those ran out, I was left with nothing to do. So now I go home at 2:30 instead of 3:30, and have an extra hour to bum around when I get home. :D Any questions?

The only annoying thing about work so far is a couple people who seem to have an obsession with turning me from a non-rule-breaking, non-drinking, non-smoking, sort of girl into one who thinks it's great fun when the cops get called on her. Seriously, their latest joke (besides the usual: "Just call me whenever you decide to get drunk!" and "Your life isn't gonna be exciting if you don't drink!") is that I need to figure out some way to get onto the police blotter. All the calls into the police station are recorded in the newspaper the next day, and apparently they get stupid ones all the time (suspicious man walking down the road holding suitcase), so all I have to do is go TP someone's house and spray-paint my name all over the place. I seriously wonder why these people say I don't have a life. 'Cause really, they're the ones spending all their time getting wasted, going to work with hangovers, and trying to convince underage kids to do the same.

Geeze.

This seems like a good place to throw in a "Some people's kids!" in a really exasperated tone.

GAHHHH!

Some people's kids.

7/25/08

Busy week, man.

It has been a definately busy week. Majorly. Second week of work, so I'm finally getting the hang of things, but there's always something that I haven't learned yet that I have to figure out on the spot, and something new to do...Goodness. Anyway, the exciting height of my year happened this week.

On with the story...

So Chris was gopher blasting the other day, blowing those little creatures outta their holes so that he could whack them with a shovel and chuck 'em over the varmint proof fence. (At least there's one of us who enjoys their job completely. =D) Well, this gopher blasting machine (named the Gopher Blaster...wow. talk about origional, right?) contains a mixture of propane and oxygen, which, when pumped into holes at high volumes is pretty effective, and makes a big boom that sounds a ton like a gunshot. Kinda freaked me out the first few times, but I eventually got over it, and began to connect each explosion with some amount of fun being had on one end or the other of that machine. So this one boom boomed as normal, and of course, I didn't think much of it.

And then Chris started hollering bloody murder. Yeah, that kinda got everyone runnin'. The two men I was with took off at a run...up the hill. I was majorly impressed, 'cause that hill is a killer. The golf carts can barely make it up it when they're floored. Gah. But then I heard another holler...This one was "FIRE!!!".

OH!

So everyone else started moving around lickety split, and I was stuck next to the tomato patch I was weeding, not having any idea what to do. This was another one of those things that I hadn't been taught anything about and was supposed to figure out in time to do something. So I took off toward the fire, hoping that some opprotunity would present itself and show me what to do. I didn't know where any fire extinguishers were, or what to do without one, so I kinda just stood there a little while longer. Then I spotted a rake someone had dropped, grabbed it, and started copying what everyone else was doing, which was, I figured out a couple minutes later, digging a trench around the fire that was getting steadily larger. A couple of people had cut limbs off the peach trees and were whacking at the fire with those, but they weren't really hindering it at all, so we were all pretty relieved when Brent showed up with the water tank. He drove around and soaked it and it pretty much disappeared after that.

THEN came the sirens. Seriously, some people just have the worst timing.

7/18/08

Too many things happening at once!

As pointed out by my mom, it has indeed been 3 days since i posted. I acknowledge the truth in this statement, but I must be allowed to defend myself: It was all from sheer lack of energy.

For those of you who actually have a little window into my un-blogger life, you know i managed to get a job last Tuesday. Super excited. It's another farm, a lot like last year, except I actually have to work here. A lot. Monday, Wednesday, Friday is picking day. That includes making our way through every single row of berry bushes, picking any veggies/squash that had ripened, as well as doing any little jobs that needed to be done. Tuesday and Thursday qualify as chore days. weeding, crop thinning...anything that needs to be done. and it's all done in 90 plus degree weather. Fun stuff, no? lol.

I'm not sure if minimum wage is enough. :D jk. it is interesting, though, because it seems that i'm the youngest person there. By a long shot. I am the only one under twenty. Oy much. But it's still fun. There are about 10 or 12 people that I have officially met. I don't remember everyone's names, so I'll do the best I can.

Belinda-Boss lady. Big hair. Kind of intimidating.

Tamara-Other boss lady. Really cool.

MaryKate (when one name isn't enough)-she's kinda my mentor...showing me the ropes, and everything.

Guy-our resident Brit.

Taylor-no background info

Chris-pretty awesome...went to NU, was in the choir. lots to talk about there!

and lastly...Kory Simmons-his mother was the secretary at CP school, and I'm pretty sure he was my Big Buddy in kindergarten. Not sure though.

So anyway, that's the work update. Now Sierra's here, and within the first hour or two, we had already busted so many gussets that...i dunno. we busted a lot of gussets. whatever. :P

Sierra: Am I blending yet?!? I am one with the hammock!

Me: ... *insert laughter*

7/14/08

I guess...

...that if I'm going to catch up to mom's blog, maybe I should actually post now and then, hmmm? Yeah, see, I've got this problem with consistency...

Sooooo.....news....can't think of any at this minute. ummm...oooh! i learned a couple new songs. I'm pretty sure that everyone who's heard them is getting thoroughly sick of E.T. Paull. :D Well, they can just deal with it, now can't they? At least now I don't complain about not having new songs to learn. Except I don't anymore, 'cause I've already learned 'em. Gah. Bummer day in the mornin'. Suggestions anyone?

I've officially decided that I'm actually looking forward to school this year. Reason being that so far, each year of school has actually seemed to improve on the last one in some way, so it stands to reason that, seeing as last year was pretty good, next year will be even better. (I know...my brilliant perception of the obvious stuns everyone. It's just a talent I happen to be blessed with. :D) Seriously, I get to go to Ireland! For two weeks! And miss a week of school! And then make up all my homework afterwards!

Wait...

Something's wrong with this picture.

GAH! Summer's slipping by too fast!

Jehova Witlesses

So I was woken up this morning by the doorbell. Twice. Since the person at the door had to ring a second time, i figured no one else had heard it, so i jumped (almost literally) out of bed and scurried down the hall to get it. I met mom just as she was coming back from the living room, and was at first struck with a whole big load of confusion as to why she was going towards the wrong end of the house to answer the door. (I really wasn't awake) When she finally managed to stop me, she whispered that it was a couple of JW's. I only pondered this briefly, before heading back to bed. I slept for 3 more hours. When I woke up again (at 11 :D) I pondered some more.

Why in the world were JW's knocking on our door at eight in the morning? Don't they have anything better to do with their time? (Of course not...we all knew that already, didn't we?) I gave up thinking about it for another couple hours (yeah, I think I have ADD...on again off again much) but about 10 minutes ago, I remembered it again. What if their coming here so early was a prank? Possibly a frenemy thought it would be fun to call them and request a meeting...gave them our adress, and thought it would be fun to point out that we're early risers? (except not) It would definately be a cruel joke. Entertaining, too of course, to the other party. It would definately require some serious retaliation, but I highly doubt that someone had actually done that.

But inspiration has already struck.

Wouldn't it be fun to do that to someone?

I'm feeling kinda evil.

So if a couple JW's show up on your doorstep at 6 in the morning...

Think of me. :D

Feel free to loathe me.

I would definately deserve it.

The best part about the whole scheme is that they never give up. I'm betting they could keep up the whole thing for a couple months...and you would have lots of fun finding new places to hide. Maybe I'll start a Witless protection program. :D

You love me.

7/11/08

It's about time

For me to post another blog. Seriously, I am incredibly bad at posting (in case you hadn't noticed). I was looking at my own mother's blog the other day, and it would appear that she has something over 90 posts, while I have...60. And I'm pretty sure I've had mine at least twice as long as she has. How dum-b (that's pronounced dum-b, if that confused you at all. Aren't I maddeningly unhelpful? :D) Anyway, getting back in the swing of blog forgetfulness, I should probably update everyone (forget everyone...how many people actually read this thing? Myself not included, I would have to say...just you. :P feel alone?) on our trip, which incidentally ended about 2 days ago.

So we left Monday...three weeks ago...I have no idea what the date was (ask mom, if you really care) and trekked out. The first stop on the roster was the ever famous Safeway of Grass Valley, home of Starbucks. Sufficiently pumped up on caffein and/or sugar, we hit the road again, and actually managed to stay there for a while, until a bathroom was needed. The next planned stop was U. Lloyd and A. Jenny's. In Idaho. About 9 hours away. So that meant about 3 more unplanned bathroom/junk food/gas stops before we actually got there. Fun, no? We spent the night at L&J's, then earlyish the next morning set out again. This time we got to stop at the International House of RoundThingsResemblingPansAndCakes for breakfast with Lenora and her husband, who, until that point, had remained unmet by us. So we met him. Onward...

Next stop...a bunch of cousins with little kids we hadn't gotten to meet yet. Adorable! Then onto Devon. There were tons of people there that I had never seen before, but wouldn't you know it, we WERE related to 80% of them, so we couldn't really just walk by and pretend we didn't know them. Especially if mom was there. "Hey Kara, there's someone here I want you to meet! This is your great-Aunt Suzy's nephew's daughter's friend's cousin, who married your third cousin's step-brother-in-law a couple years ago, and has three kids that you should go find...one of them's your age. Or maybe she's twenty. I'm not sure."

Anyway...

Stayed for teardowns, which were pretty much completely uneventful for us females, because somehow the guys got it into their heads that we couldn't really do anything except run stuff up to the house. At least I got to use the golf cart. :D That was all pretty much done by 11ish. I eventually got a job taking down curtains with my friend's girlfriend's little sister. It was pretty fun. Then pretty much everyone left, except for me, Steph, Kevin, Trevor, Logan, Megan, and John. It was fun though. Grandpa let me get out the go-cart, so I took off on that, and was having bunches of fun, until grandpa came out and told me to put it away because I was driving recklessly. I had to agree...just a tad...I got pretty good at drifting though. :D

On to Amber's...tons of fun. Nothing to comment on though.

Back to the Grandparent's. Fun. Saw U. Cliff and A. Jewel. Made danishes. :D

Uncle Jerry's. I hate Washington. Gah. Too much traffic.

Random stops to visit people I don't know. See mom's blog to read more about those.

Sierra's!!!!! Yay. She makes me laugh. :D Got there latish Thursday night, and stayed up "all night". All night, to Sierra, is midnight, because after that, it's morning. :D We stayed up until one, anyway. Then got up at seven to go to a Fourth of July shindig at the Sullivan's over in Madras. Drove for three hours to get there around 11:30. Frank Maricle was there, and apparently completely surprised to see me. What can I say...some people are painfully unobservant. :D So we played a whole bunch of volleyball, and swam, and I even got to play the piano (which is now one of my favorite pianos ever. I don't like ours much anymore). Somehow, Sierra and Drew managed to start the granddaddy of all water fights. It was pretty much amazing. Except I got thrown in at least four times...by the same person. And then dunked. By that same person again. I was considerably waterlogged by the end of it all.

Went to see the fireworks later in the evening. I was completely pooped, so I just sat on the blanket and watched everyone else play Duck, Duck, Goose waiting for the fireworks to start. They did, eventually, and they were pretty cool. Definately loud, especially with a bunch of stuff to echo off of. Wow.

Spent the night at the Sullivans, and left later that morning. Sierra and I just hung out for the rest of the time we were there (unless I'm forgetting something. I don't know), then we left on Tuesday. But she's coming down here next week!! Goodygoody. :D

K, fingers are tired now.

Hope you enjoyed the update.

Ya know what I hate?

I've decided to make a list of random things that I will never like. Here goes.

-Drying off with a damp towel

-Getting corn/popcorn stuck in my teeth and having no luck getting it out for days on end.

-Cold feet on a warm day

-When little sisters decide that they should be allowed time on the computer since they haven't had it for a week and half. (Where do they get off being thinking that they deserve something like that?)

-Stubbing the same toe multiple times

-Mosquito bites that just won't go away

-Peeling sunburns, especially when they inhabit the back and shoulders. Such a crink
the neck trying to get to it!

-Waking up hot, even though the fan's been going all night

-When mom won't let me eat all the mashed potatoes. ("That's four helpings!")

-People outside your window at 10 in the morning with no respect for the people inside who just might still be sleeping. (ya, that's me)

-The side effects of caffeine. I really should be able to drink 3 sodas and still be able to get to sleep before 2. You would think, anyway.

-Running out of episodes of Family Guy to watch online.

-Hangnails

-Dumb people

-Taking a drink of water that's been sitting out all night that now tastes like your Aunt Fanny's socks.

-Overly dramatic people (get a hint, Romeo)

-Buying a new comic book, only to realize that you already have the same one and you can't take it back

-Luke-warm, half-flat soda

-Stupid your mom jokes

-Ridiculously stupid comebacks (seriously, sister o'mine, Buttface is not a good one...at all. Origionality please...)

-Cloudy but un-rainy days

-79.7%

-The number 9. It's just a dumb number, that's what it is.

-Overly negative people

Things I will always love...

-Finally getting the popcorn/corn out of my teeth.

-Coming up with something witty to say once in a while

-Thunderstorms

-Fires, marshmallows, a blanket and a good book

-Learning a new song on the piano

-Getting new shoes

-Snapple

-Staying up and waking up late

-Getting a message in your MySpace Truth Box (ya, I got one today...apparently I'm beautiful inside and out. I personally don't get the whole beautiful blood and guts thing, but to each his own, I guess)

-Unpacking the last box

-Freshly made beds

-Eating the last ice cream bar (muahahaha! Yeah, I'm just that cynical)

-A perfectly made bowl of Top Ramen

-A brand new razor

-Being smarter than someone (yeah, a tad conceited, but who cares? :P)

-Realizing that what I did for someone actually helped them out in some way (does that score anything on the humbleness meter?)

-Waking up and realizing it's Saturday

-Minumum school days

-Talking to friends I haven't seen in a while

-Finishing a huge project (Doesnt't happen very often, so I make a big deal of it when it does)

-Seeing out-of-state cousins

-Not owing anyone money, and still having loads of it

-Watching a movie with a cute guy in it

-Feeling my IQ drop as I watch episode after episode of Family Guy

-Not having to worry about anything. :D

-Bugging older sisters about buttfloss...

-Bugging sisters in general

-Singing off key to a song I barely know

-Meeting new people my age

-Having something to do when I don't want to go over to a "friend's" house (Umm, sorry, I have to *ahem* help my mom clean house...)

-Finally being done with the school year

-Being done with this blog post...it's getting rather longish
So ciao. Have fun doing other things that I don't really care about...

6/11/08

So yay me...

I actually got dressed today on a slightly better than normal (normal being MY normal) time schedule. About four hours after I got up. But I didn't actually get up until 10...so anyway, i am showered and dressed, I smell good (yay for old spice :D), AND I got the fridge cleaned out. (Nasty, btw...icyc) I figure I've done my share of productive stuff today. No one should be allowed to order me to do anything else. Just watch that theory get shot down as soon as mom walks back through the door and sees me on the computer though.

Well, I'll enjoy it as long as I can.

Dilemma of the Dishes

Tonight played host to a great escapade. It was the dilemma of the dishes. We had pizza. Nobody picked up their dishes afterwards, so finally, mom put her foot down. Except not, 'cause she was already sitting down. Anyway, she demanded that we each put our dishes away. So she pointed at a random plate and told Steph to take it to the kitchen. Which she did, even though I'm pretty sure it was mine. (I'm certainly not complaining.) She grabbed the next plate and shoved it at me to take to the kitchen. After a moment of inspection, I declared it to be Steph's. (Who else leaves all the cheese and peperoni in a pile on the plate after the actual pizza is gone?) So mom called her over to take care of it, and sent me after the last plate, which was sitting on the couch with a pop can, presumably mine. I took them and walked to the kitchen, before i realized that those also weren't mine. So I went back to the living room, dropped them on the couch, and laid the blame for that particular set on mom. I sat down on the couch, she cracked up. Then asked me where my dishes were.

In the den....

6/9/08

As of today,

I am hereby, forthwith, and withwith in the middle of a passionate dispute with my family. The topic of discussion is actually sitting right here on the desk, not knowing why exactly it has been put in the middle of this dispute. It is a friend to all, helping people through hot days and, most of all, PE. Why then, is it being so unkindly treated with this segregation of scent? It cannot help that it's predecessors were all for men.

It is time we all reached out and embraced the awesomeness that is Old Spice deoderant.

Is it so wrong that women of the female persuasion might choose to wear this new kind of deoderant that was in yesteryear considered only to be a man's aftershave? Since it has made the adjustment from aftershave to deoderant, why can't it make one last adjustment to become a women's deoderant? Hmm? And while I'm still on the topic of aftershave, it has been proven time and time again that women shave also! Especially as they get older. Then they often times have to shave chins as well. So why not embrace the aftershave as well, huh?

Yeah. I win.

6/8/08

So maybe it has been just a little while...

Yeah, I admit, it's been a while since the last time I posted. Almost two months. And sad enough, I actually had to check to see what the date was. It amuses me that my brain turns off that quickly after school ends. So, starting back last April...(and only hitting the major highlights)

Well, we had choir tryouts. I don't know if I ever got that far. Don't think I did anyway. So I made it into Concert Choir. Yay me. So did Katherine. Yay her. And half the other girls in my choir. Yay them. Enough detail...next subject.

As a side effect of getting into Concert choir, I also might get to go on the Europe trip this next year (which I might add, is to Ireland. How incredibly awesome is that?)So I just have to come up with $3500 by next March, and I'm all set. Gah.But it's still gonna be an amazing trip. If I ever come up with the funds. That will require a summer job, which I will have to work at around summer school, if I actually have to go. It's all complicated. Next....

Going to Montana next Monday. Pretty common knowledge. Next...

School's out! Yes, I mentioned it before, but it bears repeating. Next...

Running out of things to talk about. Next...

I officially have 690 views on my myspace page. Pretty sweet. But kinda lame at the same time, since I've had this thing since 8th grade. Next...

Started another story. But you don't care. Next...

I officially qualify as one of Colonel Sander's victims. Or a lobster. I've got a sunburn all over the place. And there are some pretty funky burn lines goin' all over the place. Next...

Anyway, I guess that's it. If I think of anything else, I'll tell ya.

K Ciao.

4/9/08

Soo....

It's been a while, no? Ya, I would have to agree. So, since I now have nine and a half minutes left of my lunch break, I will see how much I can write in that amount of time. Make that nine minutes. Ok, going now....

So Spring Break was pretty much awesome. I went to the Barton's Thursday night after school and we stayed up until about 2...or something like that. Anyway, we were really tired the next morning. But we had to get up kinda earlyish to go clean this lady's house for her. I smelled like ammonia for a couple days after that. While we were there, we decided that having a tea party for all the young girls in the field would be a fun thing to do. So we started planning it for Tuesday. Eventually it got changed to Thursday, and our guest list dwindled (not so slowly) from 17 to 8 or 9. It was a bit of a bummer, lemme tell you. We went to Splash on Tuesday instead of the origional party. It was a ton of fun.

And due to a brain fart/writer's block combination, the bell is about to ring, and this is as far as I got. So, ciao for now!

3/12/08

Sophmore testing week

This week is sophmore testing week. All that means is that it's only freshmen, juniors, and seniors in all the classes. Kinda cool, lemme tell you, 'cause all my classes (except for the all frosh ones) are normally sophmore classes. And that means that there are virtually no kids in most of my classes. Which also means thatthe teachers can't really teach anything. Which means, I can get out of classes. So I'm sitting up in the library, right next to the 'puter lab, onthe only empty puter left, and i'm being seriously amused by these two guys who are in the computer lab who keep lifting the blinds. And looking at me. And smiling. It's kinda funny. And they're pretty cute. So no complaints on my part.

Yesterday in math, sophmores were testing (duh) and since not many people knew everyone elses ages and everything, there was a group of people that were trying to figure out everyone's grade level. I was just reading my book, so i wasn't really paying much attention when they said "Well, she's gotta be a junior". And then I realized that they were talking about me. Ha. "Nope." Itwas all pretty funny. And it definately made my day, especially since it happened two other times within an hour. I'm happy. :D

The Adventures of Goolash Salad

Tonight, I somehow got conned into making supper, even though it was Stephanie's night. Mom attributes it to the fact that I was plunking out tunes on the piano while laying down and complaining of boredom. Did you know it's actually possible to play the piano with your feet? It's not easy, but it can be done.

Anyway, after suggesting (and by suggesting, I mean leaving me no other option) that I make supper, mom requested a salad. And I said no. Apparently, the request was also a "suggestion". So as soon as I got the hamburger helper going, I pulled out the lettuce. But, as an attempt to even things out a little bit, I decided to make my new specialty. I call it Goolash Salad. It pretty much contains every single thing that had once been part of some kind of crop and many things that hadn't. It ended up with grapes, carrots, bananas, peas that had been sitting in the can for a while, some grated cheese that turned out to be moldy, bacon bits...you get the picture. There was almost no room left for the lettuce by the time I got done. I just didn't count on her making me eat it. Seriously, grapes and bacon do NOT go together. 'Tis the last time I will ever...I repeat EVER make Goolash Salad.

As an aside, I have a funny story that came to be yesterday after school as the buses were loading up. I'm usually one of the first ones on the bus, 'cause my last class is right next to the parking lot. So I sat down in my normal seat, and soon enough, a guy that I had talked to once or twice before got on the bus, and, since there weren't any more completely empty seats, he sat next to me. A couple seconds later, Greg got on the bus. He was one of my normal bus buddies as well. So he looks at the guy who occupied the seat next to me, and said, "You're stealing my friend?" and the other guy (I don't know what his name was) said, "Yeah, well maybe she's my friend now!". I was tickled. It was definately amusing. A senior and a junior bickering over a freshman...I could get used to this. :D

Fat Friday

Well, today was celebratorious, for no other reason than that French people like to get fat. So we celebrated Vendredi Gras (instead of Mardi Gras, which is on Tuesday. We didn't have time last Tuesday to squeze in the "festivities") which included eating of many and much junk foods. Of course, they were French junk foods, so it was all allowed. We pigged out on crepes and watched this show from the 80's called Telefrancais...i think it means something like "learn french". Anyway, it's a little kid show that we all love, for the sole purpose that it's so corny it's hilarious. The main people are two kids named Jacques and some other chick, along with a pinapple, whose favorite line is "Je suis un anana!" which means "I am a pineapple". You would think that you wouldn't be as proud of it as he is, but whatever floats your boat, I guess. We managed to watch about 3 episodes while making and pigging out on crepes. At one point, Anana was talking to someone on the phone, and he said his line (Je suis un anana) and the other guy said "Je parle un anana? Ha! Je suis une banana!" (I'm talking to a pineapple? Ha. I'm a banana!)We all laughed mucho.

By the time the bell rang, we still weren't out of batter for the crepes so Katherine, me, and two other guys whose names escape me stayed for about 10 minutes after class to make some more. The guys kinda just sat off to the side waiting for crepes while Katherine and I squabbled over the crepe maker. Cue cute guy. He was from one of Mme. Clark's Spanish classes, and he was coming in to take a makeup test. He didn't want any crepes, tho. I was insulted. :P But not really. They were pretty good. Especially with jam, whipped cream, and powdered sugar. I should make them at home sometime. They are mucho tasty. And just loaded with butter. That's the best part.
